First ever race for the 904 was at the 1964 Sebring 12 hours, where the veteran Briggs Cunningham won the 2 litre class. This auspicious debut was followed up by an even better result in the Targa Florio a few weeks later, when Colin Davis (son of Sammy) and Count Antonio Pucci won the event outright .
Further successes followed throughout 1964, with class wins at Spa, Le Mans, Reims, Nurburgring and the Tour de France.
For Le Mans in 1965, no less than seven 904's were entered. Linge and Nocker, in the flat 6 engined car, came an impressive 4th overall, winning the Index de Performance, and our subject, the Koch and Fischaber flat 4, finished 5th, winning the 2 litre class at 113.05 mph.
