If Imps were rare, MPH's were like hen's teeth. They built 18 of them, and I never thought I would ever get the chance to own one.
What I had done, however, was to list the whereabouts of as many of them as I could, just in case !
About a year after I bought the Imp, the impossible happened. There was an MPH offered for sale, in Motor Sport, but with no name or phone number mentioned. Having done the research I could put a name to the address, and thence, via directory enquiries, a telephone number.
I rang the chap, who was rather put out that I hadn't written, and had discovered his phone number, but he agreed to let me see it that day. I knew I had to act fast, and made a very sporting offer, to which he eventually agreed.
In my view, one of the most beautiful cars of all time.
