I had lusted after an Imp for years and years, but none came up in the market place for ages.
In 1971, I was on a train, travelling back to Staffordshire from a business meeting in London. Having purchased the latest copy of Motor Sport magazine (it must have been the first of the month), I was browsing through it, perhaps somewhere near Rugby, when my eyes hit upon on an advert for this one, at a well known dealer's place in a London mews.
Here was I, travelling in the opposite direction to the Metropolis. First reaction was to pull the communication cord, stop the train, and find a way of getting back.
Reality prevailed, but the very next morning I phoned a chum in London, and ask him to drop everything and to go and buy it for me. God bless him, he did just this, and it was mine.
